Alexandra Grigorieva (or Sasha, as she prefers to be called) is a researcher, teacher and food & wine writer with more than a decade of experience. She specializes in wine and food history and has a Ph.D. in Latin cooking vocabulary from Moscow State University. Her articles (both popular and academic) on different wines and aspects of their history have appeared in 4 languages (Russian, Italian, English and French). Her first book on Bordeaux was published in Russia in 2006 and one on Burgundy is planned for 2009.
Her academic papers on food history were presented at Oxford Symposium on Food and Cookery in 2003 and 2005. Her review of the new Apicius Roman cookbook edition by Grocock and Grainger is scheduled to appear in Gastronomica, a US magazine on Food and Culture. In 2004 she received the grant from British Geoffrey Roberts Award for her research project on Italian regional cuisine and in 2005 her project of research on regional French cuisine was selected for the Julia Child Fund Scholarship by IACP in the US. Sasha moved to Toronto in 2007 with her husband Dr. Ilya Sverdlov. She is a member of the Food & Beverage Testing Institute of Canada’s tasting team and, in addition to working on Vintage Assessments, Sasha will present her own features on a regular basis to FBTI readers.
