BEAUNE GREVES DE L'ENFANT JESUS 2004 AC, 1er Cru
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer Bouchard Père & Fils
Received a sample from the agent. As much as I have been disappointed with many, indeed most of the 2004 Burgundies, here is an exception which isn’t characterized by dusty, bitter, herbal notes. In fact, the nose shows remarkable fruit focusing on ripe red and black cherries with nuances of vanilla stick. It is extremely harmonious with smooth, plummy, ripe cherries and vanilla custard notes on the elegant, lingering finish. Note that the still widely available, youthful *** 2005 was released on October 13, 2007 at $104.95 with a different CSPC 43257. CSPC 972554

Burgundy expert Allen Meadows gave this wine 92 points, remarking that "the nose is earthy but fresh with excellent density and volume, culminating in an explosively powerful finish. More importantly for a firmly structured wine like this, the supporting tannins are ripe and this too should reward extended cellaring." (www.burghound.com, April 1, 2006) Price $ 81.95
