Medium Rich SINGLE HARVEST MADEIRA 1998 Madeira
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer HENRIQUES & HENRIQUES
Thanks to the unflagging efforts of the agent Miguel Jardim I was able to preview this ISD. Unfortunately,Vintages no longer permits wine writers to preview ISD wines. This wonderful 1998 vintage Madeira (ostensibly for political reasons it can only be called “single harvest”) has a golden light amber colour. The nose has fine intensity with those lovely, aged, only gently sweetish, caramel, flan inspired, balsamic notes. It is medium bodied with very tangy, flavourful, bright, caramel-butterscotch-flan flavours supported by rancio, plummy-raisiny fruit verging on Christmas fruitcake. Lingering high-acid finish. For fans of older-styled Madeira. CSPC 196857

TASTING NOTE: Greenish burnt umber colour. Startlingly fresh citrus peel flavour with a fine almond component. Perfumed with vanilla. Incredible freshness soars through the complexity. Long and such fine orange zest purity. Good value. Score: 17 (out of 20) (Julia Harding MW, www.jancisrobinson.com, Oct. 20, 2009) Price $ 33.95
