CRÈME DE CASSIS LIQUEUR Burgundy, France |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
GILLES JOANNET |
Extremely deep violet purple colour. Very bright, intense, sweet, complex, faintly herbal, candied cassis nose. Sweet, medium-full bodied, viscous, rich, well structured, slightly spicy, intense, candied ripe black current flavours with a long, lingering, bright finish. Has 20% alcohol. Screwcap closure. Perfect for a Kir when added to white wine or Kir Royale (Champagne). The former was popularized by Felix Kir, the mayor of Dijon in Burgundy after WW2, who served this drink with locally produced cassis and everyday white Bourgogne to promote the region. |

TASTING NOTE: (Translated from the French) Very consistent judgments from the panel. Lots of viscosity. The nose is dominated by the fruit, with a herbaceous edge, freshness and aromatic intensity. Ranked in the top 5 by 5 jurors. (Tasting panel, bing-bang-mag.com, Fall/Winter 2011) |
