MODUS 2011 IGT Toscana |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
RUFFINO |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Gently complex, slightly spicy, ripe plum-cherry nose with some cedar-vanilla-sandalwood notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, quite well structured, harmonious, very slightly spicy, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, gently cedary, mineral-tinged finish. Has 14% alcohol and 6 g/L residual sugar. Similar to the recommended 2009 (***) released on May 10, 2014 at $28.95. For whatever reason, both Consultant’s previews featured the previous 2009 vintage. |

TASTING NOTE: Dense dark red shaded colour. Dense, dark and concentrated fruit which needed time in glass to shake off its brooding animal characters. Once released, it proved very taut, almost quivering with the fleshy fruit weight, but that was the velvet. Inside there was an iron fist of tannin and acidity, mineral and backbone which strongly intimates that this wine needs more time, possibly a lot more time to integrate and reveal its true self.
