GRAND RESERVE MALBEC 2011 San Juan |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
GRAFFIGNA |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, fairly spicy, mature baked plum-cherry nose with some coconut-vanilla notes. Dry, medium bodied, slightly spicy, baked plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, crisp, very cedary finish. This repeat is definitely not up to the 2011 (*+/**) released on August 16, 2014 at $17.95. Rcently bottled with a new lot number on the back label (L14231). |

TASTING NOTE: Not to be confused with Graffigna's other popular reserve wines labeled "Centenario," this is a notch above. Still youthful at more than three years of age, it sports that grapey freshness so characteristic of Argentine malbec. Cheerful yet concentrated and structured, it reveals notes of plum, berry, vanilla and chocolate. Good for grilled red meats. Score - 89 (Beppi Crosariol, The Globe and Mail, Sept. 26, 2014) |
