HBH CHAMPAGNE 1ER CRU 1996 AC |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
BROCHET-HERVIEUX |
Mature deep yellow colour with no sign of bubbles! Incredible, complex, toasty, baked ripe lemon nose. Fairly dry, medium-full bodied, spicy, honeyed, creamy, lemon meringue baked apple flavours with a lingering, caramel-tinged, gently effervescent finish. Totally remarkable, and for me, an extremely delicious, ready-to-drink, complex, toasty, mature but still alive 1996 Champagne. TONY ASPLER / 93-points / TRY - Old gold colour; toasty, nutty citrus, white honey and apple notes on the nose; medium-bodied, elegant with a long, lemony finish. For lovers of old champagne. Has 12% alcohol and 11 g/L residual sugar with lot number 04/1997 on the back label. |

TASTING NOTE: Produced only in exceptional years, the HBH is crafted in honour of Alain Brochet's father, Henri Brochet-Hervieux. The 1996 vintage offers a marvelous insight into mature Champagne and, at 20 years of age, represents an impressive value. This has touches of toasted marshmallow atop the brioche, apricot, spice and flinty mineral notes that provide this wine's solid foundation. Creamy and soft with superb acidity, and a great depth and quality of toasty autolytic notes. This is wonderful. (VINTAGES panel, Feb. 2016) |
