APPELLATION AGRELO CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014 Agrelo, Uco Valley, Mendoza |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
CATENA |
Very deep intense purple colour. Gently cedary, spicy, ripe plum-cherry puree nose. Very dry, medium to medium-full bodied, extracty, fairly dense intense, dried plum flavours with a faintly bitter, lingering, high acid, sandalwood-tinged finish. This does not seem to have the mid-platae structure of the sample stated last Fall. Has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L16338 on the back label. TONY ASPLER / 90-points / BEST BUY - Cedar and plum on the nose with a vanilla oak note; medium-bodied, dry, creamy blackcurrant and plum flavours with ripe tannins; firmly structured with a creamy mouth-feel and a savoury, dry, finish. |

TASTING NOTE: (From vines planted in 1973; cropped at one cluster per shoot.) Bright, dark red. Ripe yet cool aromas of cassis, licorice and menthol. Supple, spicy and slightly medicinal; in a rather Old World style for a Catena wine but still with lovely fruit sweetness. The deep clay soil stayed cool in 2014 but the fruit was not affected by rot, according to [chief winemaker Alejandro] Vigil. Began a bit clenched, with the acids and tannins out of sync, but harmonized nicely as it opened in the glass. Drinking window: 2016-2020. Score - 90 (Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com, March 2016) |
