Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer VEIGA
This ISD was supposed to be released on February 4 but was difficult to find. It is now in 12 Flagship stores (10 in the Toronto region alone) and worthy of a detour, especially for Mother’s Day! Ambering medium brown colour. Intense, sweet, raisiny, honeyed, caramel-plum nose with some toffee-tinged brown sugar notes. Sweet, medium bodied, quite well structured, spicy, figgy, rich warm plum jam flavours with a lingering, fairly zesty, caramel-orange pekoe tea finish. Has 19% alcohol and 101 g/L residual sugar with lot number L2873 27102016 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Note that “3-YEAR-OLD” does not appear anywhere on the bottle. TONY ASPLER / 91-points / BEST BUY - A nose of dried figs with a herbal note; medium-bodied, dry, elegant, beautifully balanced, with flavours of dates, bitter chocolate and orange zest. A Best Buy
TASTING NOTE: Madeira is a Portuguese archipelago specializing in fortified wines that can last decades, if not centuries - so this 3-year-old is truly a youngster. It's nicely balanced with attractive notions of coffee and dates, and bright acidity. (VINTAGES panel, Feb. 2016) Price $ 18.95
