946 ROSÉ 2016 AC Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CHÂTEAU GASSIER
Bright very pale salmon colour. Slightly spicy, attractive, mineral-tinged, ripe red apple-lemon nose. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, ripe lemon-melon-apple flavours with a lingering, high acid, mineral-tinged finish. This refined blend of 45% Grenache, 45% Syrah and 10% Rolle has 13% alcohol and only .4 g/L residual sugar. There is 5.54 g/L total acidity suggests that it should probably be consumed in the next two years or so. This rose is an assembly of three components - First is the heavier parts of the juice (lees) previously stored at low temperature (4°C) and then filtered. This base gives to the wine roundness in the mouth. The second part comes from the alcoholic fermentation in half muid (500l) of new Austrian wood (Stockinger) which gives complexity. The last part comes from the fermentation between 14 and 16°C in concrete tank highlighting the fruit aromas. TONY ASPLER / 91-points / TRY - Minerally, spicy redcurrant nose with a light floral note; medium-bodied, dry, elegant, beautifully balanced with great length. The touch of tannin on the finish gives the wine added interest. This assemblage

TASTING NOTE: Aged in wood, this wine is rich and spicy. Its fruit though is beautifully in balance, ripe with raspberry and red-currant fruits that are shot through with lemon acidity. This is a full-bodied wine, impressively structured and likely to age for a year or two. It is named after the 946 steps up the mountain behind the estate. Drink from late 2017.
