| Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, spicy, cedary, baked plums with some reductive notes that reduced the score. Dry, medium-full bodied, dense, intense, spicy, slightly baked plum flavours with a lingering, high acid, mocha-chocolate finish. It’s almost overwhelming with it’s 15.1% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. I don’t know where the reductive notes are headed and, at this high price, it might be risky to lay away as the LCBO now seems very reluctant make any refunds on “faulty” older bottles. | TASTING NOTE: Again, you can't help but notice the marked difference in mid-valley syrah, even in a particularly warm year, and maybe a shift to less is more at Painted Rock. The sweaty, peppery floral nose invites you into the glass with a hint of reduction (be sure to decant for 45 minutes). The palate is more of the same with floral, sagebrush, black pepper, curry and licorice supported by dense, fine-grained tannins. More refinement again and we will take it.
