TASTING NOTE: The 2011 Red is a 60/40 blend of Mavrodaphne and Mavro Kalavritino, aged for 16 months in oak (85% French, the rest American; 60% new, 30% used). It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. This is not quite as lush and as full as the 2010 in our vertical, but it is, perhaps, more aggressive early on. Of course, it is also a year younger. It is easy to see why the winery likes to release these late. The haze of tannins and acidity pretty much obscured everything else on opening, but about two hours later it did begin to show very well. When this rounds into form, it should be a graceful wine with an elegant demeanor. Right now, the fruit is pretty hard to find. Drink Date: 2017-2029.
