This is one of 44 items (155 releases) not presented for evaluation under new LCBO policies. Any item not tasted is assigned an interim ZERO-STAR (-) rating and an interim 0-POINT proxy score until properly assessed. The 2014 last appeared in Vintages (***) on November 24, 2018 at $44.95 and was an Explorer Selection. Here is my previous note: Extremely deep intense purple colour. Slightly spicy, bright, intense, ripe plum-cherry puree nose with some cedary notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, extracty, harmonious, intense, cedary, rich, spicy, fairly intense, ripe cherry-plum flavours with a lingering, crisp, faintly savoury finish. This blend of 90% Malbec and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon has 14.5% alcohol and 5 g/L residual sugar with lot number L18-176 on the back label. |

TASTING NOTE: The third vintage of the 2015 José Zuccardi was produced with grapes from Altamira and Gualtallary in the Valle de Uco. It's mostly Malbec but contains some 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. It fermented in concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in oak foudres. It feels riper and a little rounder than the 2014, but the sharpness of all of their wines - the focus and precision - is impressive irrespective of the vintage. 32,000 bottles were filled in February 2017. Drink date: 2018-2024. Score - 93 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, June 29, 2018) |
