MALBEC 2015 Uco Valley, Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer JOSÉ ZUCCARDI
This is one of 44 items (155 releases) not presented for evaluation under new LCBO policies. Any item not tasted is assigned an interim ZERO-STAR (-) rating and an interim 0-POINT proxy score until properly assessed. The 2014 last appeared in Vintages (***) on November 24, 2018 at $44.95 and was an Explorer Selection. Here is my previous note: Extremely deep intense purple colour. Slightly spicy, bright, intense, ripe plum-cherry puree nose with some cedary notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, extracty, harmonious, intense, cedary, rich, spicy, fairly intense, ripe cherry-plum flavours with a lingering, crisp, faintly savoury finish. This blend of 90% Malbec and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon has 14.5% alcohol and 5 g/L residual sugar with lot number L18-176 on the back label. CSPC 163725

TASTING NOTE: The third vintage of the 2015 José Zuccardi was produced with grapes from Altamira and Gualtallary in the Valle de Uco. It's mostly Malbec but contains some 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. It fermented in concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in oak foudres. It feels riper and a little rounder than the 2014, but the sharpness of all of their wines - the focus and precision - is impressive irrespective of the vintage. 32,000 bottles were filled in February 2017. Drink date: 2018-2024. Score - 93 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, June 29, 2018) Price $ 44.95
Bottle Size 750 mL
Tasting Date vintages release - November 9, 2019
Cases bought 35 (6 bottles per case)
