This is one of 43 items out of 92 releases not presented for evaluation under new LCBO policies. Any item not tasted is assigned an interim ZERO-STAR (-) rating and an interim 0-POINT proxy score until properly assessed. The recommended 2015 (**/**+) was released on October 27, 2018 at $18.95. Here is my previous note: Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, spicy, gently juicy, ripe black cherry nose with some cedar notes. Dry, medium bodied, well structured, harmonious, tangy, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, slightly cedary finish. Has 14.5% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with lot number 46B17 24/05/18 on the back label. |

TASTING NOTE: The soils of Chacayes are rocky and blanketed with chalk, and they generally give rise to wines with very robust tannins. This vineyard was planted 12 years ago on that rocky terrain, and today it yields a deliciously fresh wine. There are floral, tart cherry, herbal, and spice notes here, all in a context of firm and very piercing tannins. This wine was aged in used barrels, and the oak's only interference seems to be light spicy notes. The finish has that spicy touch, but it's layered over red fruit, lots of red fruit. Score - 94 (Patricio Tapia, guiadescorchados.cl, 2019) |
