ATEMPORAL BRUT NATURE CHARDONNAY/PINOT NOIR SPARKLING 2018 Traditional method, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer ALTA VISTA
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Bight pale straw colour. Slightly chalky, fresh, lemon-apple-melon nose. Fairly dry, medium-light bodied, slightly spicy, bright, ripe, apple flavours with a harmonious, well balanced, gently effervescent finish. Pleasant and ready-to-drink but certainly not a Parker 91-point wine! NOTE: the tasting note appearing in the Vintages Catalogue refers for the 2017 not the 2018 which appears of the on the front label. These are totally different wines - this 2018 has the same blend of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir, but according to the back label, it spent at least 12 months on the lees, has 13% alcohol and 6 g/L residual sugar. As for being a “Brut Natur” (zero sugar dosage) it seems to be to have a tad more sweetness than expected. Th lot number L2287 appears on the back label. NEW in Vintages - tasted once. CSPC 15683

Tasting Note: This time I also tasted a white sparkling wine, the NV Atemporal Brut Nature. The base wine is from 2014, and the way to know it is because the label mentions the disgorgement year, 2017, which can be confused with the harvest date. It's a blend of 90% Chardonnay from 16-year-old vines in their Albaneve vineyard in Campo de los Andes in Vista Flores (Valle de Uco), with 10% Pinot Noir sourced from Tupungato. It was a year with lower alcohol (this is 12.6%) and higher acidity; it was disgorged after a second fermentation in bottle and no less than 18 months in contact with the lees. This is very clean, elegant and precise; it's aromatic and has a nice balance between fruit freshness and flavors from the lees. It has integrated bubbles and very good acidity. The base wine has the style of the Estate Chardonnay, with good acidity, freshness and minerality. This is surprisingly good. Drink date: 2018-2020. Score - 91.
