LOS PARAISOS BONARDA 2016 Unfiltered, single vineyard, Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer EL ENEMIGO
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. The actual name of this grape is Douce Noir which originated in Savoie France is called Bonarda in Argentina. It has nothing to do with true Italian Bonarda. It’s juicy, fruity and usually low in tannin producing crowd-pleaser ready to drink reds. Extremely deep intense purple colour. Spicy, cedary, mocha-chocolate-tinged nose with intense, ripe, plummy-cassis fruit. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, harmonious, spicy, intense, ripe plum-cherry-cassis purée flavours with a lingering, harmonious finish. Quite delicious and ready to drink, the Bonarda was unfiltered (after being fermented and aged in large 100-year-old foudres) which helps explain the richness on the palate. It has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with bottling number L20143 on the back label. This is the 84th Argentine Bonarda to be released in Vintages since 2003. You can find my notes on all of them on our paywall-free VA website database. The only Bonarda as good as this (with a minimum 90-point score) was their Best Buy El Enemigo La Esperanza 2014 released on February 2, 2019 at $21.95. NEW in Vintages. CSPC 17286
