EL BARRANCO BONARDA 2016 Single vineyard, Junín, Mendoza |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
EL ENEMIGO |
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. El Enemigo’s various vineyard bottlings of Bonardas have consistently been the best at the LCBO. This hefty El Barranco is no exception. Very deep intense purple colour. Spicy, gently cedary, faintly dusty nose with ripe, plum-cherry-cassis fruit. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, still youthful, fairly spicy, intense, ripe plum-cherry-cassis fruit flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, very faintly herbaceous, finish. Quite delicious and almost ready to drink, this 100% Bonarda was unfiltered (after being fermented and aged in large 100-year-old foudres) which helps explain the richness on the palate. It has 13.5% alcohol, 2.16 g/L residual sugar and 5.8 g/L total acidity. It was labeled on L20135 but actually bottled in June 2017. NEW in Vintages. |

TASTING NOTE: This is mouth-filling and so powerful and rich, showing a decadent and full-throttle style. I don't think you will have had a bonarda like this. Tannic and muscular. Wonderful, expanding finish. Old vines. Drink now [to 2028+]. Score - 95 (jamessuckling.com, March 27, 2019) |
