GRAN RESERVA MALBEC 2012 Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CICCHITTI
A 279 case REPEAT of the recommended 2012 (***) was released on January 19, 2019 at $27.95. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a bottle for assessment from the agent. so who really knows what THIS BATCH tastes like today? Here is my previous note: Extremely deep intense purple colour. Attractive, slightly spicy, bright, ripe cassis plum-cherry nose with some cedary notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, harmonious, bright, ripe black cherry-cassis purée flavours with a lingering, crisp, gently cedary finish. Well structured and ready-to-drink. This 100% Malbec was sourced from 50+-year-old vines and aged for 12 months in new French and American oak. It has 14% alcohol and 11 g/L residual sugar with lot number L15336 on the back label. TASTING NOTE: A combination of char, licorice, blackberry and cassis aromas is about as complete and pleasing as it gets for Malbec. This doesn't lose it in the mouth, where things are firm and true, with solid tannins. Charred flavors carry onto the flavor profile along with blackberry and hickory smoke, while the finish is toasty, chocolaty and spicy. Drink through 2021. Editors' Choice.
