TINTO DE LA CASA 2018 Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MATÍAS RICCITELLI
The vintage date of this very tasty 2018 “House Red” appears in tiny type on the back label. it’s NEW in Vintages and quite impressive - indeed delicious. A Mendoza co-fermented blend of Malbecs from two regions. The label states: “aged in French oak vat during 12 months” and only 7,000 bottles were produced (1,788 going to the LCBO). It has an extremely intense deep purple-ruby colour. The nose is quite beguiling - spicy sandalwood, Damson plum, black cherries and rose hips. It’s dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, harmonious, intense, bright, ripe and yet elegant, almost Bordeaux-inspired,Damson plum flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, faintly savoury, sandalwood finish. It has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L07121 on the back label. CSPC 19400

TASTING NOTE: 2018 was not that different from 2017 in terms of temperature, but it was a little warmer than 2019. The red 2018 Tinto de la Casa was produced with Malbec - 50/50 grapes from Las Compuertas and Gualtallary, fermented together with some full clusters in oak vats. It has an explosive and aromatic nose with notes of flowers and herbs. The flavors are pungent and focused, with very integrated oak but with some spices, with fine-grained tannins, good complexity and depth. This is quite sophisticated and feels like a more expensive wine than it is. A bargain! Drink date: 2019-2023. Score - 93 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, Oct. 31, 2019) Price $ 29.95
Bottle Size 750 mL
