TASTING NOTE: Malbec Old Vine comes from a selection from five producers throughout the Uco Valley, all from old vines, some 80 years old. The wine was aged in barrels, a third of them new oak. Harvested early in the season, a very Uco Malbec character is evident here, with its aromas of violets and cherries and the palate marked by firm tannins and sharp acidity. This is a very good photograph of the historical part of the valley, before it had become the booming zone that it is today. It doesn't have the edge or verticality of the more modern versions, planted in higher vineyards, but it does have the freshness and fruit character.
