CHARDONNAY 2020 Valle de Uco, Mendoza |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
CATENA |
A REPEAT of the recommended 2020 (**/**+) that was released on May 15, 2021 at $19.95. Here is my updated tasting note from a fresh bottle purchased at Vintages. Bright very pale straw colour. Intense, slightly spicy, gently complex, intense, ripe lemon-apple meringue nose with some faintly tropical, cedary notes. Dry, medium bodied, well structured, tangy, spicy, ripe lemon-apple meringue flavours with a lingering, crisp, cedary, mineral-tinged, fairly high acid, faintly tropical finish. Quite ready-to-drink. Has 13.5% alcohol and now 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L21015 on the back label. This is the 24th release of this wine in Vintages since December 6, 2003. |

TASTING NOTE: The 2020 Chardonnay Catena is 90% from the Uco Valley, fermented with whole bunches and aged for up to eight months in barrels. Yellow with a golden sheen. The expressive nose presents notes of linden blossom, apple, creamed corn and hazelnuts. In the mouth, it's unctuous and indulgent but also has decent tension, a terse texture and long-lasting, bold flavors. The oak reappears on the rather concentrated aftertaste. Drinking window: 2021- 2027. Score - 91 (Joaquín Hidalgo, vinous.com, June 2021) |
