The Vintage Catalogue shows that this is the 2020 as does my LCBO receipt. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. It’s a REPEAT of the 2019 that was last released on June 26, 2021 at $16.95. It did NOT receive a James Suckling 92-point score. It was assessed from a bottle I purchased at the LCBO. Intense deep purple colour. Fresh, juicy, ripe black cherry nose with some spicy, gently cedary notes. Dry, medium to medium-light bodied,, harmonious, spicy, plummy-black-cherry flavours with a lingering, gently cedary, fairly high acid finish. This 2019 was vinified in a totally new manner. Only 50% (vs. 80% for the 2018) was aged in 100% French oak barrels (10% new barrel and 40% second and third use barrels) and 50% (up from 20%) in stainless steel tanks. While the 2018 was the best to date with 89-points, this 2019 is an easy-drinking, well-balanced, crowd-pleaser still with 13.5% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with lot number L21208 and LM335 on the back label. |

TASTING NOTE FOR THE 2020 (not 2019): Blackberry, currant and violet. It's medium- to full-bodied with round, lightly chewy tannins. Fleshy texture on the palate with freshness and a silky feel. Juicy, fruity finish with some length. Drink or hold. Score - 92 (jamessuckling.com, April 8, 2021) |
