EL MIRADOR SINGLE VINEYARD BONARDA 2017 Mendoza Unfiltered
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer EL ENEMIGO
Great to get two single vineyards of 2017 El Enemigo Bonarda in one release. The 2016 both appeared in Vintages two years ago 2020 but in different releases. Being able on the taste them side by side is great. I started with this Entry-level Mirador which peviously had a lower previous score. That was not the case this time. Extremely deep intense purple colour (but not as intense as the El Barranco). Very spicy, intense, complex earthy, cedar-driven, ripe, black cherry purée nose with some hints of olive, chocolate and walnut. Dry, medium-full to full bodied, well structured, solid, very intense, ripe, juicy, plummy-black-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, sandalwood-cedar-tinged, mocha-chocolate finish. Has 13.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with LM127 / 2-21154 on the back label. Unfiltered, this is an exquisite Bonarda with terrific mouthfeel. CSPC 15120

TASTING NOTE: A Bonarda from an old vineyard planted in clay soils up to 12 feet deep in El Mirador, Rivadavia, aged for 12 months in old foudres. The nose is all raspberry and sour cherry plus hints of quince and herbs. Complex with a soft feel in the mouth, even though the tannins are a little sharp, bringing a pleasant roughness and lending a corrective vigor toward the end. A delicious take on wine from a warm climate. Drinking window: 2020-2030. Score - 93 (Joaquín Hidalgo, vinous.com, Oct. 2020) Price $ 21.95
Bottle Size 750 mL
