EL BARRANCO SINGLE VINEYARD BONARDA 2017 Mendoza Unfiltered
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer EL ENEMIGO
Great to get two single vineyards of 2017 El Enemigo in one release. The 2016 both appeared in 2020 but in different releases. Being able on the taste these side by side is great. I tasted this after El Mirador as this scored higher last time. It has an extremely deep intense purple colour - deeper than the El Mirador. It has a spicy, very cedary, somewhat floral nose with lots of juicy, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis fruit. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, fairly spicy, intense, juicy, ripe plum-cherry-cassis fruit flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid finish. Intense, delicious and quite ready to drink, but not quite as complex as the El Mirado which scored 93 (vs 92). This 100% Bonarda was unfiltered (after being fermented and aged in large 100-year-old foudres) which helps explain the richness on the palate. It has 13.5% alcohol, 2.16 g/L residual sugar and 5.8 g/L total acidity. It was labeled on L-N128 / 2-2121 and comes in a slightly lighter green bottle. CSPC 15132

TASTING NOTE: Black currant, dark plum and berry aromas are lightly floral and hint at herbs, giving this Bonarda an elegant nose. A juicy, lifted palate is pulpy but finessed. Raspberry, cherry and currant flavors are a touch reedy, while this tastes slightly of red licorice candy accented by herbs on the finish. Drink through 2025. Editors' Choice.
