EL ENEMIGO CHARDONNAY 2018 Mendoza |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

EL ENEMIGO |
Bright light yellow colour with an intense, rather cedary, complex, lemon meringue nose with some spicy, baked apple notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, slightly spicy, intense, quite complex, toasty, ripe lemon-apple meringue flavours with a lingering, minerally, somewhat pithy-leesy (I believe from the flor), cedary finish. Note that this Chardonnay spent 9 months in French oak under flor and has 13.8% alcohol and 3.4 g/L residual sugar. I think that the initial difficulties I had with the leesy nose/taste were related to this flor technique and that when it had a chance to breathe and open up the wine improved and became much more accessible. |
