EL ENEMIGO CHARDONNAY 2018 Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer EL ENEMIGO
Bright light yellow colour with an intense, rather cedary, complex, lemon meringue nose with some spicy, baked apple notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, slightly spicy, intense, quite complex, toasty, ripe lemon-apple meringue flavours with a lingering, minerally, somewhat pithy-leesy (I believe from the flor), cedary finish. Note that this Chardonnay spent 9 months in French oak under flor and has 13.8% alcohol and 3.4 g/L residual sugar. I think that the initial difficulties I had with the leesy nose/taste were related to this flor technique and that when it had a chance to breathe and open up the wine improved and became much more accessible.
