PARAJE ALTAMIRA MALBEC 2018 Paraje Altamira, Valle de Uco, Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CATENA
For over 100 years the Mendoza-based Catena family has pioneered the high-altitude viticulture and led the way to Argentina’s Malbec revolution. They began sourcing Malbec from the vineyards of Altamira a 75-acre plot that was planted in 1996 in the Uco Valley at 3,613 feet. It is a real winner and release highlight. Deep purple red colour, the attractive, spicy, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis purée nose has just the right balance of gently complex cedar notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, rich and nicely structured, the harmonious, bright, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis flavours are followed up by a lingering, refined, cedar-tinged finish. It is aged for 12 months in 100% 225-litre French oak (35% new) and has 13.6% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number L20160 on the back label. Capable of aging/improving for the next 5 years there is really a lot of enjoyment packed into this bottle. CSPC 492413
