MALBEC 2019 Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer PASARIS
I was excited to see how this new release at only $16.95 would perform given James Suckling’s 92-point score from two years ago. I discovered that it was good value and well made. In fact, his tasting note is mostly fine (except that it wasn’t “very rich”). However, this commercial, ready-to-drink, quaffable crowd-pleaser really doesn’t deserve anything above 89-points. This leaves room for all those other serious Malbecs truly deserving 90-points and more. Extremely deep intense purple colour with a fresh, slightly spicy, intense, youthful, not-overly complex, unoaked, ripe, plummy nose. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, bright, juicy, plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, very crisp finish. Has 14% alcohol and 5 g/L residual sugar with lot number L1-21305 on the front label - suggesting that it was bottled from stainless steel storage tanks on November 1, 2021 almost 17 months after James Suckling’s quoted review.
