| On November 6 I had the opportunity to blind taste this 2022 Tignanello against Oreno 2022. Both from Tuscany but vastly different grapes and prices: $192.95 vs $99.95 for Oreno. Both have inflated 99-point scores posted on the LCBO website. So how do they really compare? They do not. This Tig is much better and much more promising than the 2022 Oreno which rated 93-points. The reason is that this 2022 has a higher level of alcohol jumping from 13% to 14% and a new blend of 78% Sangiovese (down from 79%), 18% Cabernet Sauvignon (up from 13%) and only 4% Cabernet Franc (down from 8%). The wine a very deep intense purple-red colour and a still youthful, somewhat tight, fairly intense, very gently cedary, slightly spicy, plum-cherry-cassis fruit on the nose. Dry, medium-full bodied, very well structured, harmonious, intense, ripe, Damson plum, cassis, red-and-black-cherry flavours with a lingering, youthful, bright, gently cedary, sandalwood-tinged finish. |

| TASTING NOTE: A slightly different breed than the '21, the 2022 Antinori 'Tignanello' Red Wine really needs about an hour in the decanter to get going. I enjoyed this wine on five occasions while staying in Firenze and each time I noticed how the wine began to slowly evolve after an hour. It is even more heady and intense than the '21, with a seamless texture and polished tannins that frame a gorgeous core of creme de violette, cassis, loamy soils and suggestions of sweet pipe tobacco on the palate. A total head-turning bottling, make sure to give this a lot of air if enjoying in its heady youth. Drink date: 2026-2046. Score - 99 (Dr. Owen Bargreen, owenbargreen.com, June 10, 2025) |
