Franciacorta is one of Italy's newest areas for the production of top-quality wines. The finest wines of the region are allowed to use the Terre di Franciacorta DOC on their labels. Under this DOC, Merlot and the Cabernets are the principal allowable grapes, with a touch of Nebbiolo and Barbera also being permited. This version, which uses only Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, is matured for 12 months in barriques. With an excellent balance of fruit, acids and tannins, this wine will definitely reward 3-5 years in a cellar, or try it tonight with grilled leg of lamb. |
