Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris
At the AGO until August 26
Think you know Picasso? Think again. The current Art Gallery of Ontario's display of the modern master’s 147 works is the biggest this continent has ever seen! And it's really worth seeing. Here's Murray Whyte's article from the Toronto Star.

Rose'Z Update
I can now place a check mark beside The Nova Scotia Folk Art Festival on my “art to-do” list. Last year was my first time, this year I’m going back, and hope to return to many more in the future. The folk art movement in Nova Scotia which takes its inspiration from its surrounding community and geography is robustly represented annually at the Nova Scotia Folk Art Festival . The 24th edition-this year will take place on Sunday August 5th.
The festival, which includes an auctiononly lasts for 4 hours.. It starts at noon. People line up for this one and the line-up usually snakes all around the War Memorial Arena between Green and Victoria Streets in Lunenburg Nova Scotia-a one-of a-kind town-and UnescoWorld Heritage site.
This year’s festival which includes over 50 artists, most in attendance, will be showing, paintings, hooked rugs, carvings, and small pieces of furniture.Someof the exhibiting artists also have worksin the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia’s on-going Folk Art exhibit ”A Show of Hands” in Halifax (only an hour’s drive from Lunenburg).

Another Art Gallery of Nova Scotia’s must-see is Maud Lewis’tiny house/studio-which was moved and restored and now resides permanently inside the gallery. A peek inside this precious homeimmediately opens your heart to the pure joy and pleasure of her paintings.
The following week is the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, which also includes music, food  and a door prize, is a complete expression of Nova Scotia’s traditional maritime culture. This well-oiled, energetic, whirligig of a show, entirely volunteer-run, includes the infamous 5-part  buyers ticket, as well as a UPS table, so that you can box and send anything, anywhere on the continent.
Get ready for the count-down…just 11 more days and the doors to the Arena swing open

A 2012 Shaw Festival Highlight
Present Laughter
Festival Theatre, Niagara-on-the-Lake
Dressing gowns, love affairs and witty repartee – glittering stage star Garry Essendine’s life is full of them all. He’s also got more visitors – and more admirers – than he knows what to do with. How can he stop a smitten ingénue, an intense young playwright and a married seductress, from declaring their admiration? And as his not-quite-ex-wife reminds him, he’s getting a bit old for all of these romantic games. Can he escape from his fans in time? And does he want to?
Some loved it (me), others didn't (some Toronto critics).

A Tasty Summer Treat
The Lower Ossington Theatre

Avenue Q
Who says puppets are for kids? Originally brought to you by Dancap. AVENUE Q tells the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who moves to NYC with big dreams and a tiny bank account. The only apartment he can afford is way out on Avenue Q, where everyone’s looking for the same things he is: a decent job, a stable relationship, and a “purpose.” Eventually, Princeton learns to embrace the ups and downs of city life and realizes that “the real world” isn’t so bad, after all! Running until October.
