Tasting note: A coppery liquid brew with a real shake-a-cane-in-your-face nose of astringent oak, vanilla, spice. Some peachy fruit sweetness to counter this rambunctious spirit and we’re back to a tight, astringent and fiery bourbon. At 57 % abv, you’re getting quite a whack on the nose and palate, but after the initial sting, a warm coddling finish of fruit with caramel toffee. A classic old style whiskey. Strong, spicy and opinionated. (Patricia Noonan, Wine Access ‘First In Line E-Report’, Oct. 2003) |
