TASTING NOTE: Until recently, Green Spot was a closely guarded Irish treasure, exported only through the false-bottom carry-on bags of enterprising tourists ... The whisky’s flavour is sweetly malty, with hints of orange peel and honey, lifted by exotic spices, predominantly cardamom. It’s delicate enough to match with food, but a classic way to serve it is as an apéritif. Part of the blend is aged in old sherry casks, and the flavour comes through in a whisper. ... Despite its considerable spiciness, the whisky stays remarkably smooth. (Beppi Crosariol, The Globe and Mail, July 10, 2004) |
