STROH ‘54’ SPICED RUM Austria |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
|
Deep ambering orange colour. Very intense, sweet, pungent, spicy, ginger-caramel nose, which has tones resembling airplane glue. Intense, very peppery, alcoholic, pungent, caramel-gingerbread flavours that go on and on. The Vintages Catalogue quote says that this has a “beautiful seamless flavour”. Let me warn you that not everyone is going to like this intense, idiosyncratic character. |

TASTING NOTE: Buttery, sticky, sweet burnt sugar spice nose. Add top notes of citrus peel and a whiff of baked apples and the picture gets bigger, along with the big 54% alcoholic whack, which is there only in the name. Drying gingery spice and beautiful seamless flavour [lead] into a lengthy finish. Score – 93. (Patricia Noonan, Wine Access, ‘First in Line E-Report’, Oct. 2003) |
