Mazzetti d’Altavilla creates stunning bottles that contain grappas and eaux-de-vie of finesse and elegance. With this example, Mazzetti presents a triangular, hand-blown glass bottle containing a glass knight and filled with grappa made from the Grignolino grape. This varietal has long been heralded in Italy as the great challenger to Beaujolais’ Gamay for light-bodied red wines. Though it has the fruit, its high acid (which tends to create tannic wines) is its downfall. It makes an excellent grappa though; the flavours and aromas are intensified and the aromatic fruitiness of the wine comes further to the front once it is distilled. |
