When Cooley came on the scene in 1989, the Irish Distillers company dominated the landscape. After a few missteps in the early 1990s, Cooley hit its stride. They looked at what was being produced, saw that it was very good, but realized it could be so much more. With labels such as Connemara they reintroduced peating into Irish Whiskey, a concept that had been avoided for generations. When Connemara Peated was reviewed in 1999 by whisky expert Jim Murray, he raved about it, rating it 9/10 (Whisky Magazine, May 13, 1999). |
