‘ST. HUBERTUS’ Hungary |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
Zwack Unicum |
Light amber colour. Spearmint chewing gum nose. Spicy, sweet, herbal, pine flavours. Arriving late and will not appear on the shelves until December. This liqueur (it scored only *+) usually is a top performer and I suspect that what was tasted in the the lab sample was not a fresh sample. Here is my tasting note from December 2, 2000: Intense, Sweet & Herbal *** Medium-light gold colour. Sweet, very intense, extracty, spicy, perfumed, honeyed, floral, herbal-citrus peel nose (which you may or may not like!). Very sweet, bright, rounded, spicy, bitter herbal flavours that go on and on. A great palate cleanser. |

Herbal bitters can range all over the ‘sweet/bitter’ map. The secret blend of citrus and herbs used to create ‘St. Hubertus’ falls into the warm, slightly spicy and gently bittersweet camp. Herbal bitters have been used since time immemorial as a digestif after a hearty meal. |
