CONNEMARA CASK STRENGTH PEATED SINGLE MALT IRISH WHISKEY Single Grain Irish Whiskey |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
Cooley Distillery |
Light yellow colour. Very intense, sweet, spicy, peat tinged nose. Solid, intense, very dry. somewhat peppery, spicy, smoky flavours with a lingering, very bright, ripe lemon finish. You may want to cut this one with a touch of filtered cold water. Note that the percentage alcohol is different from the one quoted in the Vintages catalogue from the Whiskey Bible, which is 58.9%. |

TASTING NOTE: Nose: A mixture of turf smoke and bonfires. Taste: Unbelievably sweet at first despite the close attention of drying oak, but the smoke chimes in with an outrageously spicy attack. Taste: Burnt toast and liquorice; a mixture of medium and heavy Java coffee, lightly sweetened with Demerara sugar makes for one giant finale. At first it is hard to see the direction this malt is taking. Give it a while, and on about the third tasting you realise there is more to the madness than meets the eye. Superb, so it is!! 58.9% [alc.] Score - 94. (Jim Murray, Whisky Bible, 2007) |
