Karuizawa was established in 1955 in the foothills of Mount Asama, an active volcano. Situated at an altitude of 850 metres, Japan's highest distillery experiences very hot summers and very cold winters which is said to contribute to the unique character of its whiskies as they mature. This boutique-sized distillery specializes in traditional, small-scale production methods using 100% Golden Promise barley, wooden washbacks, small stills and sherry casks. This 8 year-old-single malt is a brilliant introduction to the joys of Japanese whiskies. |
