CHARDONNAY 2007 Marlborough, South Island
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer SPY VALLEY
Bright light yellow colour. Intense, rather cedary, spicy, baked lemon nose with some key lime pie notes. Dry, very intense, medium-full bodied, extracty, mouthfilling, key lime pie and lingering buttery brioche flavours with a very slightly sweetish finish. Perhaps a bit over the top with lots of toasty notes balanced by fine acidity. Drink now - at peak. Screwcap closure. Similar to the recommended 2005 (**) was released on May 10, 2008 at $18.75. A Best Buy
TASTING NOTE: A consistently attractive, top-value wine. The 2007 vintage, harvested at 23-24 brix, was fermented (mostly with indigenous yeasts) and lees-aged for 10 months in French oak barrels. A fresh, mouthfilling wine with strong grapefruit and stone-fruit flavours, it shows good weight and concentration, with a dry, lingering finish. It's a drink-now or cellaring proposition. Score - **** (out of 5). (Michael Cooper, Buyer's Guide to New Zealand Wines, 2009) Price $ 19.95
