LEPANTO SOLERA GRAN RESERVA BRANDY DE JEREZ Jerez
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer Gonzalez-Byass
Last appeared in Vintages (***) on November 9, 2007 ISD at $77.95 and was Recommended. My note: Medium golden amber colour. Fairly intense, gently spicy, complex, caramel-creme brulée tinged nose with lightly sweet-vanilla custard notes. Dry, very slightly spicy, rounded, intense, caramel tinged, bright, plummy flavours with a touch of lemon on the long lingering finish. CSPC 94334

TASTING NOTE: Part of this brandy's story is its luminous orange-honey color. Aromawise, Lepanto is almost Cognac-like in its grapey, piquant, generous but focused bouquet; it presents a very disciplined nose. The off-dry flavor brims with mellow fruit at entry and midpalate, then fades neatly into a tobacco leaf, tea leaf, tar-like finish that's off-dry and tight. Superb. Highly Recommended. Score: 90-95 (Paul Gregutt, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 31, 2002)
