Sometimes the blarney is actually true. In the 20s and 30s, the Cork Distilleries Company (CDC) had a salesman named Paddy Flaherty who was well known and very well liked in his district. When Paddy cycled into town the local men would follow him into the pub knowing he would buy the men standing nearest him a round. Once the patrons got a taste of the product, Paddy could then pressure the pub s owner into carrying the brand. When the pub ran low, the owner would call CDC and order a case of Paddy Flaherty s Whiskey . As this happened with great frequency, CDC decided to change the whiskey s name (originally called CDC Old Irish Whiskey) to Paddy s in honour of their best salesman. |
