PISCO PURO Peru |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

Clear yellow colour with a questionable cap closure. Interesting, fairly sweet, sake, rice-driven nose. Rather dry, slightly peppery, fairly elegant, bright, sake flavours that show good persistence. Has 44% alcohol. |

Both Chile and Peru claim Pisco as their own. In fact, Peru is planning to address this dispute before the World Trade Organization. Their briefing paper on the issue states: Pisco is as Peruvian as llamas and arroz con pollo. Peruvians hold a deep-seated national pride for Pisco, which they make [distill] from the cream of the grape harvest and have been drinking it at parties and festivals for over 400 years. Until this is resolved, discover which style of Pisco suits your palate: this product or Chile’s Pisco Reservado (CSPC 288100 General List). Our panel’s tasting note: A nicely structured clear spirit with aromas that suggest sweetgrass, apple core and sweet lemons. Dry, with a touch of sweetness on the mid-palate. Medium bodied with a bit of heat on the persistent finish. (Dec. 2000) |
