ARMAGNAC HORS D'ÂGE AC Bas-Armagnac |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
MONTAL |
Medium golden orange amber colour. Intense, slightly spicy, ripe plum puree nose with lots of vanilla notes. Dry medium bodied, quite well structured, harmonious, ripe, plummy-caramel flavours with a lingering, bright, very faintly peppery finish. The 100-gallon Armagnac oak vats are made of age-old white oak trees taken from the nearby Monlezun and Frêche forests. |

TASTING NOTE: Deeply delicious stuff from its pretty medium-deep taffy brown colour right through to the fabulous aroma profile which includes burnt sugar, dried fruits, smoky maraschino cherry and lots of vanilla. Dry, with complex flavours playing across the palate. There's a smoky centre with, to wax poetic for a moment, a roundy and smooth vanilla bean finish. (Vintages panel, Sept. 2012) |
