‘ST. HUBERTUS’ Hungary |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
Zwack Unicum |
Deep gold colour. Very spicy, sweet gingerbread nose with peppery and rubbing alcohol notes. Intense, sweet, clove flavours which finish in a peppery, somewhat coarse manner. Another example of a change in style - here the alcohol has fallen from 39% to 36%. This time , however, the product has taken a big step in the wrong direction meaning that the tasting used in the Vintages is quite irrelevant. |

Tasting note: A rich gold herbal bitter, St. Hubertus delivers a softly sweet nose of citrus, spice and bits of caramel. Sweet and spicy on the palate with the same citrus overtones against the spice, it doesn’t have the medicinal bitterness associated with most digestifs of this sort. Excellent length. (Might be nice cut with an ounce of brandy to 1/2 ounce of bitters …). (Patricia Noonan, Wine Access First In Line E-Mail, Nov. 2001) |
