CRÈME YVETTE |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

Fairly deep violet-purple colour. Sweet, rather viscous, spicy, honeyed, black cherry-raspberry-cassis flavours with some candied rose notes on the finish. This liqueur (27.75% alcohol) has been resurrected after being discontinued in 1969 by the folks who bring you the much more interesting St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur. Yvette is made from dried violet petals, blackberries, raspberries, wild strawberries, black currants, honey, orange peel and vanilla. It is used to make Blue Moon (2 parts gin, 1/2 part Crème Yvette, 1/2 part fresh-squeezed lemon juice; shaken with ice and strained). |

Originally crafted in 1890, this unique liqueur blends blackberry, black currant, wild strawberry and raspberry with violet petals from Provence. TASTING NOTE: First Impression: Violets, vanilla and honey notes intermix with berry and spices. Hints of citrus, lychees, and black currants. & Taste: Thick, rich, taste and mouthfeel, reminiscent of violet candy in taste, and a lingering finish of violets, vanilla and oriental fruits. Final Thoughts: One of the more interesting liqueurs I have come across in a while. Nicely done and excellent overall. Classic & Good Value. Score: 9 (out of 10) (Chris Carlsson, spiritsreview.com, Undated) |
