GRAPPA DI SASSICAIA Italy
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer POLI
Bright very pale straw colour. Excellent, expansive, intense, spicy, ripe, sweet melon-pear puree nose with same grassy notes. Intense, medium bodied, harmonious, somewhat sweet, dried ripe pear flavours with a lingering, faintly grassy, honeyed, finish. Similar to when it last appeared in Vintages (***/***+) on November 24, 2012 at $119.95 and was Recommended. CSPC 175794

San Guido (the owners/makers of Sassicaia) do not own a distillery, so they engage grappa specialists Jacopo Poli to create this amazing eau-de-vie. Distilled and matured in former Sassicaia barrels that impart rich echoes of the Super Tuscan, this is the perfect gift for admirers of Sassicaia. TASTING NOTE: Sassicaia is a cult red wine, and I adore the producer's olive oil, too. Now we have Poli Grappa Di Sassicaia derived from the pomace of the grapes that go into the famed Tuscan red wine. Delicate honey, floral jasmine, clover blossom essences gently seduce the senses in this golden-hued elixir. The best grappa I have ever tasted.
