‘BELLE DE BRILLET’ ‘Poire Williams au Cognac’ |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

J.R. Brillet |
This blend of pear eau-de-vie and Cognac has a very light golden amber colour. The bouquet and taste is intense and quite delicious. Sweet, rich, freshly-baked, warm apple-pear flavours which are studded with sweet raisins. It takes 9 kilos of pears to produce a single bottle! |

A blend of pear eau-de-vie and fine Cognac, each bottle requires approximately 20 pounds (9.1 kg) of pears to create. Tasting note: 2000 Liqueur of the year … A simply terrific bouquet; the palate entry is soft, mature and reserved – the mid-palate stage shows off the extra ripe pear fruit by the truckload as the texture turns borderline syrupy but retains enough acidity to keep it from going too thick; the finish is sweet, sinewy and offers just a glimpse of the cognac component in the throat; all in all, a superbly crafted liqueur that’s harmonious and remarkably focused; Bravo! Score – HHHHH (out of 5). (F. Paul Pacult and Sue Woodley, The Spirit Journal’s Fourth Annual Awards of Excellence, Jan./Feb. 2000) |
