LCBO Note Status A Vintage Assessments Explorer's Selection!
Mortlach is the oldest distillery in a town that boasts the world's highest concentration of distilleries. In operation since 1823, they were one of the few distilleries allowed to continue production during the rationing days of WWII. TASTING NOTE: The whiskies produced by Mortlach are highly sought-after for use in blends and, as in this case, by independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail. Aromas of burnt sugar, maple sap, vanilla, candied fruit, flowers, woodsmoke, and butterscotch. The palate is dry, smooth and round with, with some fiery spice mid-palate and nice balance and complexity. Sweet notes emerge on the long, layered finish, reprising the excellence foreshadowed by the nose. Add a drop of water to smooth out the experience. (VINTAGES panel, Nov. 2011) Price $ 109.95
