‘OLD RAJ’ GIN Scotland, Distilled in Great Britain With Gift Box |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
Wm. Cadenhead |
Clear with a faint hint of green and yellow. Intense, very spicy, slightly sweet, appealing, herbal, Chartreuse-like nose. Wow! Dry but balanced, very expressive, pungent and yet smooth, honeyed, spicy, sweetish herbal flavours with a lingering finish. Great by itself or on the rocks. |

Tasting note: At 55 per cent alcohol, it’s as full-bodied as they come, but neither hot nor harsh. You can see a difference; there’s an intriguing yellow tinge to it owing to one of its key ingredients, saffron. American wine critic Anthony Dias Blue called Old Raj the “Rolls Royce of Gins”, while the Wine Enthusiast magazine awarded it a score of 96 points out of 100. Playboy Magazine called it a “deceptively smooth powerhouse” (just don’t ask me how I know). The bottle comes in a box, perfect for Father’s Day gift wrapping.
