BRUT NATURE RESERVA CAVA Méthode Champenoise, DO, Penedès, Spain
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CYGNUS
Bright pale straw colour. Slightly leesy, faintly toasty, slightly spicy, lemon-melon-apple nose. Dry, medium-light bodied, vibrant, ripe lemon-apple flavours with a crisp finish. Good effervescence and ready-to-drink. Very decent and recommended for $17.95, however, it’s hardly deserving of 90 or 91 points! In fact, it’s not quite up to when it last appeared in Vintages (**/**+) on October 11, 2014 at $19.95 and was Recommended. Unfortunately I could not find a lot number on the bottle. CSPC 352856

TASTING NOTE: Here's a fine, Champagne-style bubbly that comes with two bonuses where some consumers are concerned: It's organic; and it weighs in at an impressively low 11.5-per-cent alcohol. But those are hardly the only reasons to love this electric-crisp Cygnus. Absolutely bone-dry and light, it's got piercing, sour lemon-lime fruit underpinned by toasty bread and a suggestion of mineral.
